If you receive income support from us, this is the time of year to check your tax accruals. The turn of the year is also the time to renew your tax card.

Check your tax card before Christmas

At the end of the year, the income limit on your tax card may be exceeded. The withholding percentage on the daily allowance will then increase and the amount of the daily allowance you receive will decrease. This can be a nasty surprise as Christmas approaches.

If you are still applying for the daily allowance, check the income limit and accumulation on your tax card. If your accumulation is about to exceed the income limit, order a new tax card from the tax office for the rest of the year.

You can find the income limit on your tax card and the accumulation of daily allowances paid in the current year in your own data in OmaYTK. If you have also received a salary, take this into account in the accumulation.

If you are about to exceed the income limit, order a new tax card from the tax authorities, on which you have increased the income limit by the amount of the benefits for the rest of the year. You can estimate the amount of the daily allowance for the rest of the year by multiplying the amount of the daily allowance by the number of working days for the rest of the year.

When you order a new tax card, please refer to us, the YTK Unemployment Fund, as the recipient of the tax card. This way we will receive the new tax card directly from the tax authorities.

Once you have ordered a tax card, we usually have the new tax card the next day. If there is a weekend in between, for example, it can be several days before we receive the new tax card.

If you want your daily allowance application to be processed in accordance with the new tax information, please send us your follow-up application only when the new tax information appears in OmaYTK. If you send your application on the same day you order the new tax card, your application may still be processed with the old tax information.

Taxes in 2025

The new year is also approaching. During December, we will automatically receive new tax information from the tax authorities for next year, but it will typically be for wages. When the tax card is for wages, we have to increase the tax rate according to the tax authorities’ instructions.

If you are also applying for income support next year, order a new tax card as soon as you receive your 2025 tax card from the tax authorities. On the new tax card, please indicate an estimate of the amount of future daily allowance you will receive and inform the tax authorities that we are the recipient of the tax card.

You will receive your 2025 tax card in MyTax no earlier than 23.11.2024 and no later than 13.12.2024.

Once your 2025 tax card is in MyTax, you can make changes to it by ordering a new tax card.

When you order a new tax card, you will need an estimate of the total amount of future daily allowances in 2025. The total amount depends on the level of your daily allowance and the number of days of daily allowance you will receive.

To get an estimate of one month’s earnings-related daily allowance, multiply one day’s earnings-related daily allowance by 21,5.

The total amount of earnings-related daily allowance you will receive is also affected by the maximum period of time you can receive it, i.e. how many days you can still receive it in total. For example, to get a rough estimate of the total amount of earnings-related daily allowance for a whole year, multiply one day’s earnings-related daily allowance by 258. This is too much if you only have, for example, 100 days of the maximum period left. In that case, the estimate is one day’s earnings allowance multiplied by 100.

The total amount is also affected by the staggering of the daily allowance. The staggering reduces the amount of earnings-related daily allowance payable as unemployment becomes more prolonged. It is a little more difficult to take account of the staggering. However, if you ignore the staggering, you will not pay too much tax.
