TE reform: register as a jobseeker in time

At the turn of the year, TE tasks are transferred from the TE Offices to the employment areas. The transfer will also involve changes to the information systems and the services will be closed from 30.12.2024 to 2.1.2025. This will affect the registration of jobseekers and the timetable for employment policy statements. If you know that your job is coming to an end, you should register as a jobseeker in advance.

Transfer of TE tasks

The responsibility for organising public employment services will be transferred from the State Employment and Economic Development Offices to municipalities and municipal cooperation areas on 1.1.2025. There will be 45 employment areas in total. In connection with the transfer, the services will be closed from 30.12.2024 to 2.1.2025.

The transfer of TE services to municipalities will bring services closer to customers. When employment services, municipal education services and business services are under the responsibility of the same provider, the services will support the goal of faster employment. Municipalities are well placed to offer targeted services to customers, tailored to the needs of the local labour market.

In anticipation of the transfer, municipalities have established employment areas and ensured that key functions and services are operational when the responsibility for organising services is transferred.

Congestion possible

In anticipation of the transfer, municipalities have created employment areas and ensured that key functions and services are ready to operate when the responsibility for providing services is transferred.

However, this is a big change and various practical challenges may arise. In the context of the transfer, services will be closed from 30.12.2024 to 2.1.2025. In addition, January is typically the month when unemployment is at its highest and demand for employment services is at its highest. Therefore, customers should also be prepared for the change and the potential congestion it may cause.

Do this

  1. If you are about to become unemployed or are facing lay-offs, register as a jobseeker in advance. You can register as a jobseeker even if your job has not yet ended. You can register as a jobseeker on the Job Market Centre. If your job application is not valid, we cannot pay you an earnings-related daily allowance.
  2. Be prepared for queues. A labour market policy statement is a prerequisite for the payment of unemployment benefit. The transfer of TE services may cause some delays in the issuing of statements. There may be regional differences.
  3. Apply for daily allownace as normal and follow our communications on the website and in our newsletters. If you have any questions, we will be happy to advise you.
