Unemployment fund membership is an important backup for various changes in your working life. There might be moments in your life when you consider leaving us. Luckily, it is not necessary for you to leave in most situations. The list below provides information on what to do with your membership in different situations.
It is important to keep your unemployment fund membership active. Benefits offered by YTK include a comprehensive and flexible members’ service, clear instructions for difficult situations, empathetic customer service and functional tools for different stages in your membership.
If you are joining a trade union, remember that YTK Unemployment Fund membership does not prevent you from becoming a member of a trade union. This means that you can simultaneously be a member of YTK and a trade union. The membership fee of a trade union typically also includes the membership fee of an unemployment fund. If you choose to stay with us, make sure that you do not make unnecessary membership payments to another unemployment fund.

In some situations, the YTK membership fee might be too much. We are sorry that it is not currently possible to apply for exemption from membership fees. However, you can ask for an extension to get more time to pay or arrange payment in instalments. Do not hesitate to contact us, we can surely come to a solution.
We recommend that you join an entrepreneurs’ unemployment fund as soon as you start working as a full-time entrepreneur. You can accrue your working condition only by being a member of an entrepreneurs’ unemployed fund. Remember to join an entrepreneurs’ unemployment fund within a month of leaving us. This way you will be protected if you become unemployed before fulfilling the working condition.

It always pays to study. These days there are also many ways to combine studies and unemployment security. Remember that you can also accrue days for your working condition during studies. It provides you security after graduation.
According to the Unemployment Security Act, you will not lose the working condition you have accrued if you are absent from the labour market for an acceptable reason. Studying is one such acceptable reason. This means that if you were employed before the start of your studies, you can keep your accrued working condition if you pay your membership fee during your studies. An acceptable reason can extend the working condition review period by up to seven years. However, you do need to keep your unemployment fund membership active and the only way to do that is to pay the membership fee.
In most cases, you should join an unemployment fund in the country in which you work. Posted workers working for a Finnish employer are an exception to this rule and should join a Finnish employees’ unemployment fund. Learn more.

If you wish to terminate your membership of the YTK, please fill in the resignation form. Termination of membership of the YTK Unemployment Fund automatically terminates membership of YTK Worklife.
If you are a combined member of the YTK and wish to terminate your membership in YTK Worklife only, please send your resignation via OMA+.
Please note! If you are not paying the membership fee for 2024, please enter 1.1.2024 as the end date of your membership.
If you have paid the full year’s membership fee and end your membership in the middle of the year, please state your bank account number in the membership termination form to get a refund. You may request a refund if there are more than 10 euros remaining of your membership fee.
